Outside of the Box Access Solution

Bespoke solution for building maintenance access to a Lockhart Road high rise building in Hong Kong.

Located on top of a high rise building in Hong Kong is an older project from our archives. This project provided a distinct challenge for the Farra Team to create an access solution that fit with the existing features on top of the Lockhart Road Building.

The building's congested roof top was dominated by a 30-metre-high neon advertising hoarding. This created limited space for any access equipment and required the team to come up with a solution that ensured the hoarding would not be interfered with.

Farra's solution...design and manufacture a unique and versatile 25 metre articulating jib building maintenance unit (BMU).

The BMU was nicknamed “the dragon” for its ability to ‘wrap’ around the advertising hoarding, and the triple slewing jib ensured the unit could reach the entire perimeter of the tower, while allowing the sign to be unaffected.

Key Facts

Total Safe Working Load: The BMU's total safe working load is 850kg.

Cage Safe Working Load: The cage's safe working load is 300kg.

Installation: The unit was designed, manufactured and installed in 1999.
