Alstom VLocity Train

ROLLING STOCK FOR PASSENGER RAIL.

ALSTOM, AUSTRALIA.

PROJECT

Alstom is Australia’s leading end-to-end rolling stock manufacturer of light rail and passenger vehicles, (LRV) including modern light rail to high-speed trains and requires high quality, high volume sub-assemblies with a premium level of reliability, documentation and supporting QA system.

ROLE

Farra manufactures and supplies components to Alstom on various rolling stock projects in Australia, offering best-in-class reliability while delivering sub-assemblies and ensuring stringent quality standards are met and upheld.

This project requires laser cutting, folding, spot and stainless welding with a high-quality, high-volume focus. Solid manufacturing processes and flow are paramount and this is all underpinned by our proactive QA system that helps prevent quality issues from occurring rather than just documenting them when they occur. Our quality and weld processes are overseen by our Quality and Compliance manager and we have a team of certified weld inspectors who ensure the delivery to the agreed standards ISO 9001 and ISO 3834-2. At the end of the day, a quality outcome protects the lives of people.

Farra’s has always been an engineering company exporting off-shore. Manufacturing for this type of client has seen us up our game and we are now Alstom’s Top OTIF (On-Time-In-Full) supplier and we are working hard to maintain this. Ongoing continuous improvement is essential for quality driven manufacturing.

RESULTS

Farra has manufactured and exported on average 15,000 stainless steel sub-assemblies a year for trains in South Australia, Victoria and Queensland.

Farra’s ISO 9001 Quality System and award-winning weld education program for staff training is one we are very proud of. It was recently recognised by Hera, our engineering industry body.

Farra one of Alstom’s Top OTIF (On-Time-In-Full) suppliers.

Farra are the first engineering company in New Zealand to achieve EN15085 for welding rail vehicles and components.
