Accident, Incidents and Hazards

  • Uneven Floors and Obstacles - Please stick to designated walkways when moving through workshops. Watch your feet for trip hazards and uneven floors.
  • Weld Flash - Do not look at anyone welding and always wear safety glasses near anyone welding. Weld Flash is very painful and may cause irreversible damage.
  • Machines - Please stick to designated walkways when moving through workshops. Do not use any machines until you have been trained in their safe use, or you are under supervision. Many of our machines may start unexpectedly, watch out as machines start moving without warning.
  • The Steel - The most common accident is cuts from the edge of steel sheets. Only handle the steel with gloves on.
  • Grinding Sparks - Always wear your safety glasses around others grinding.
  • Hot Steel - Always treat steel as being hot unless proven otherwise.
  • Swarf - Always wear safety glasses around machines as metal swarf is hot, sharp and dangerous
  • Lubricant Spills - Lubricant can be slippery, don’t stand in it and let the supervisor know.
