Farra Machining has had machining capabilities since the first gold dredges were built here in Otago during the gold rush of the 19th Century. Over the year it has developed a reputation for specialised heavy precision machining with hard earned skills and a range of large gear that is unique in this part of the world.

Today

Today however we have a range of the latest CNC machines and CAD/CAM software that compliments the traditional with highly accurate 3 dimensional sampling, production and jobbing work. In the past no job was physically too large, now the smaller jobs are also part of our core business.

We also offer a full site and shop fitting service utilising the expertise of our qualified and extremely experienced team of fitters.

The premises of Farra Machining is a stand alone 4,000m2 building and the large main workshop has easily accessed and well organised machines and is serviced by three overhead cranes, the largest an 18 tonner. Adjoining the machine shop is Farra Casting which makes for efficient movement of components between the two operations.

We are a leading supplier to a number of key manufacturers in the Otago and Southland area, they depend on our quality, our price points and our deliveries to keep them selves internationally competitive.

A number of our clients are small, sometimes start up companies who have a great idea and we are working with them to bring this product to market. Some times we are simply making one or two components for a local operator who knows that we can quickly turn around a hand drawing into a detailed finished product.
