About WELCOME
Farra Fabrication traces its history back to the 1860’s gold rush days that saw the rapid development of a business infrastructure in Dunedin. With over 140 years in business, the generations of tradesmen who have passed through have left their legacy of skills and work ethics with the current company.
TODAY
Today, Farra Fabrication is a large diverse workshop capable of handling any sized fabrications from small to very large. Our scope covers any fabrication work from small light gauge ducting through to complex machinery. Our workshops cover over 2300m2 of floor space with a further 750m2 of yard storage. Cranage capacity is up to 40 tonne in the main fabrication bay which means we are able to handle very large and heavy fabrications.
One of the Fabrication divisions main industries is the manufacture of building maintenance units (BMU’s) that are designed and marketed by our Access Equipment division. These BMU’s are uniquely designed and manufactured slewing jib cranes, permanently fitted to the rooftop of high rise buildings, to lower a man cage to maintain and service the façade of the building. Each unit is individually designed to integrate with the architecture of the building. Farra building maintenance units have been fitted to buildings throughout Australasia, Asia and the United Kingdom. Consequently, many are complex machines that provide a successful challenge to our team of experienced tradesmen.
An off shoot of the BMU’s has been the development of pit maintenance units for the aluminium industry, with several units having gone into sites in New Zealand, Australia, Mozambique, Dubai and Bahrain.
Overhead cranes have been another of Farra Fabrications traditional products that we have designed and manufactured over the past few decades. Whether it’s a 300T capacity crane for a hydro power station or a 2T crane for a new workshop or warehouse, we continue to supply and maintain these to our customer base throughout New Zealand.
Even though we manufacture some exciting products for the world market, a large percentage of our work still comes from the local market, whether it is simple steel fabrications or the manufacturing, installation and maintenance of plant throughout the lower South Island. Previous projects have included; pressure vessels, storage tanks, steel platforms and stairs and general pressing, cutting, forming and welding. With our well equipped workshop and range of trades, we are able to supply completed projects or individual components to meet our client’s needs.
Our team of experienced fabricators and fitters are also just as productive on our customer’s sites as they are on our workshop floor.
